On July 25th, 2021, the Skateboard community saw history as their beloved sport made a debut at the Tokyo Olympics. A four-day tournament was held, a place of joy for the youth street culture to show the world their tradition.
Notable international athletes are participating in this inaugural championship. Many eyes are focusing on the host's representative, Yuto Horigome, and the tournament's favorite, United State's Nyjah Huston.
By adding skateboarding as a new sport, the International Olympic Committee has the ambition to tap into the young fans worldwide, who have turned skateboarding into a multi-billion dollar industry.
Tony Hawk, an avid skateboard lover and entrepreneur said that this sport was a shock to the world stage.
"As a kid who mostly got teased for my interest in skateboarding, I never imagined it would become part of the Olympics," Hawk wrote underneath the Instagram video he posted.
